Beautiful, touching story with a rhythm bouncing back and forth between Lia and the dog. The illustrations move with the story beautifully, creating a momentum as a forgotten dog and a lonely girl move toward one another without realizing it. Touching and gorgeous.
I agree with you, Nick, the illustration in this book are beautifully done. The lives of the girl and the dog mirror each other; the illustrator uses color and light very effectively in evoking emotion and warmth (and lack of it).
AWESOME! This one is a keeper! I could read this book again and again. The combination of the sweet story and the 'just right' drawings was amazing. I don't know which tugged on my heart more.
I loved this story and loved the illustrations even more. This book will definitely be shared with my students in years to come.
On the bad side, this story takes a long time to lead up to a very short and predictable ending. On the good side, it’s still a cute little story anyway. I probably would not use it as part of a curriculum, but I would use it as part of a classroom library so children could choose it and read it. This may be just the book for a young child with an interest in dogs.
