This title, suggested by a reader of our blog, is a poetic retelling of the Swan Lake story in a modern-day, urban setting. The images in this book are really quite powerful; I would say this one is more appropriate for children in the older age range of Caldecott elibility (materials appropriate for children through age 14 are to be considered).

Thanks for the suggestion!

I love how much emotion is in each image. The artist's note at the back describes how Javaka Steptoe painted on slabs of asphalt. Very interesting symbolism and captivating art are the result. I highly recommend taking a close look at this one!
