This title was suggested for our discussion by a youth services librarian in New York state, who wrote:

I'm not sure if this book qualifies, but it it my favorite picture book of the year so far: Wave by Suzy Lee.

Absolutely fantastic illustrations!!

I agree, this title is quite exceptional, evoking the excitement of a young girl's day at the beach. However, according to the Caldecott Award Criteria from ALSC, nominees for the Caldecott Medal must be residents or citizens of the United States.

According to her website, http://www.suzyleebooks.com/suzylee/, Suzy Lee was born in Seoul, South Korea, and currently lives in Singapore.

Regardless, it IS an outstanding picture book!
