I think this is a really cute book and the illustrations do tell the story of the little girl and her monkey having an adventure but they just don't get me excited. I have to say though I love the end pages. I guess for me the illustrations in this picture book just aren't special enough to stand out for a Caldecott book.
I think she's an amazing picture book creator, but isn't she British, so ineligible for the Caldecott?
You are correct about Emily Gravett being British. She lives in Brighton and yes that would mean this book would not qualify for the Caldecott Award.
